Rockstar seems not-so-quietly determined to prove Michael Pachter wrong about his prediction that Red Dead Redemption will lack “tremendous mass appeal.” In addition to the steady feed of trailers, screens and ad banners, you can add a half-hour TV special.
Scheduled to run on FOX stations on Saturday, May 29 at midnight, the special is a fully animated short film set in the gameworld of Red Dead Redemption. Let’s hope we can trust that claim and we don’t end up with some dorky behind-the-scenes developer interview puff piece.
The show’s description is as follows:
RED DEAD REDEMPTION, a short animated film by acclaimed director John Hillcoat (The Proposition, The Road) based on the video game RED DEAD REDEMPTION, tracks John Marston’s progress as he tries to uncover clues to the whereabouts of his former gang mate Bill Williamson. His journey throws a rag tag cast of characters across his path including local lawman Marshall Johnson, unscrupulous snake oil salesman Nigel West Dickens, rancher’s daughter Bonnie MacFarlane and gone-crazy prospector Seth.
Check your local listings, because the Saturday-at-Midnight time slot isn’t exactly a highly valued assignment. Local stations may choose to instead run other programming at that time. The special was originally scheduled for May 15, so don’t be surprised if it gets moved again.
Red Dead Redemption – the PS3 and 360 game – arrives May 18.
