MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) are becoming more and more attractive to a lot of players. This is largely due to the fact that they find themselves in need to interact with other people just like them, and, through such online games where a lot of gamers participate, such a thing is possible.

The interactivity between players is always an aspect that most MMORPG developers emphasize by creating many ways in which gamers can talk with each other. This is a very sensitive area especially for companies that make online games for consoles, as people can't really chat fast with a controller. As such, when and if the system allows it, they prefer to use a keyboard, so you can't really differentiate between PC and console games, in that respect.

But John Smedley, the president of Sony Online Entertainment, a company that owns some very popular PC MMORPGs like Everquest, Vanguard, or Star Wars Galaxies, thinks that online console games will certainly catch on and even goes so far that he predicts that half of his company's business will come from the PlayStation 3 in the future.

“I think a lot of the people who play PS3 games right now aren't the same people playing MMOs right now. I think MMOs on PS3 are going to bring in a lot of new players. There are certainly people who have consoles and PCs in their house. The difference is what they actively play. PS3 gamers are used to playing Resistance 2 instead of a shooter on the PC. I think we can bring this kind of gaming to this audience and I think it's going to be huge.”

It seems that Smedley is quite confident that people, despite having the chance to play online games much more easily on the PC, they will slowly but surely migrate towards the PS3 for all of their online gaming needs.

What do you think? Is it more attractive to play online games on a PC or does the fact that you can plug a keyboard in the PS3 make it a better platform? Leave us your answer by using the comment form below.
